Oscar Wilde once said,
"I regard the theatre as the the greatest of all arts forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it means to be a human being."
The arts are fundamental to our humanity. They inspire us and create empathy. The arts foster community connection and open us to different perspectives.
According to Americans for the Arts, 72% of Americans believe “the arts unify our communities regardless of age, race, and ethnicity" a perspective observed across all demographic and economic categories.
Yellowhammer Theatre Group, based in Atlanta and Selma, is focused expressly on bringing theatre performance and arts education opportunities to Alabama’s Black Belt to expand opportunity and access to this vibrant and important art form.
By partnering with local organizations such as Arts Revive in Selma, Yellowhammer brings an educational component to the Black Belt to help young people learn about a career path in the theatre, help them build self confidence, communication and collaboration skills and, to paraphrase Billie Jean King, to help them see it so they can be it.
